Farewell faithful kichen scissors. Rest in pieces..

Mike's Pith & Wind - Inanimate objections
I dropped the kitchen scissors this morning. I guess I’ve owned them for more than thirty years now but they were still the ‘new’ scissors in my mind. Anyway, as they hit the unforgiving tiles one of the plastic tortoise-shell handles snapped off and spun across the floor, finally coming to rest under the plastic bag containing recycled plastic bags. I’ve had a string of such incidents lately, so I couldn’t even muster an expletive.
It was only the day before when I was doing the dishes that I managed to flip the yellow plastic food scraps dish resting on the bread board off the bench. Somewhat miraculously I intercepted it half way down so it disgorged only half its load of cold chips and tea leaves onto the floor.
I put the half empty / half full bowl into the sink and surveyed the carnage. The bread board had accepted some of the soggy tea leaves so I washed them off into the sink and went to stow it against the wall – and it immediately toppled back onto the bench, which was when I realised I hadn’t washed all the tea leaves off the edges.
By now I was tiring of the whole episode and prejudicially picked up the bread board and dumped it a little too forcefully into the sink – where it flipped the remaining contents of the food scraps bowl onto the kitchen floor.
Tea leaves are surprisingly difficult to mop up and I trod on a couple of chips as well, so the whole catastrophe took the best part of ten minutes to clean up. read more

Dick's Toolbox - Time on my hands
I am looking at a page of photographs of wrist watches, things of great complexity, occasional elegance and astounding cost. I assume that if a firm such as Patek Philippe make two Sky Moon Tourbillon* watches per year that cost around $1,300,00 dollars each that someone is buying them; they are not being stockpiled in a Swiss warehouse – if stockpiled and warehouse are appropriate words in this context. I believe that they are sold to Patek Philippe’s most cherished customers, so we might assume that in today’s financially unbalanced world that there is a queue - a small queue perhaps - but definitely a queue.
I imagine that Sky Moon Tourbillon watches are not every day wear, casually picked off the bedside table before going off to the office to do battle with recalcitrant sub-contractors or, on the weekends, scraping the barnacles off the bottom.. read more
